Reconstructing Culture
In the process of this short project, I was met with many situations, some were obstacles some were smoothly executed. The things that went well throughout this process for me was when I needed the materials and the process of breaking the teapot. Everything I needed which was a teapot, an adhesive and some markers were at my home and even if I needed something suddenly, I could improvise from the materials I had in my house. The other thing that went well was when I broke the teapot. Initially, I was worried that it might shatter into hundreds of pieces but with little force and precision, it broke into 8 pieces which I broke into the number of family members that I wanted to show in my piece.
There were many obstacles in the course of this project as many things won't go your way the first time. The choice of adhesive was one obstacle and displaying the fragments was another. The fragments when put together didn't really show well which was a great problem as it would just be a bunch of names on a shabby teapot. My solution was to either put a marker on the edges or nail polish which was the closest thing. The other problem was my choice of tape or glue, the selection of adhesive would determine the stability and tape would leave it fragile but displayed the fractured parts better, while the glue made it durable but concealed the cracks. I ended up choosing the glue as showing the cracks wasn't a problem anymore.
What I think is the most significant part of my piece is the thought of my values and how I displayed them. My value was family and with my piece, it should be easy to understand that each part was a piece of me. I want it to show that my family is important to me and to all of us. I wanted to show that my value of family to me is so important that no other value comes close to standing next to it.
Something that I would do differently in my project would be investing even more time into it so that each name could blend into the piece it was on. The red marker that I used to show really stood out but could have been executed better. Something, like engraving each name in cursive and using gold color, was designed on teapots revolve around the color gold.
My growth in the Spanish language was been exponential as my understanding of the rules and restrictions have grown. The words come secondary when it comes to the conjugations and prepositions. The basic words like, for, are, from, it, and a have many different forms and I am beginning to understand which ones to use for each situation in a sentence.
